an audio performance

A meadow in the center of the city. In front of the architecture of Berlin's new center. A soundscape of music, inner monologues, discourse and documentary material. A gathering in the political center of this country. Only here can a new decision be made about §218.

"i am (no) mother" is an audio performance about reproductive self-determination in Berlin's public space. As a moving sculpture in public space, director and actress Karoline Stegemann questions the history and effects of §218, which regulates abortion under criminal law. After a commission appointed by the traffic light government began its work in March 2023 to re-examine §218 and recommended in April 2024 that abortion up to the 12th week should be exempt from punishment, the artistic-activist performance "i am (no) mother" calls for the abolition of §218.

Equipped with headphones, the audience experiences a piece at the interface of radio play, sound and performance in the political center of Berlin and becomes an intervention in public space itself.
