Burlington, Canada in 2003: Lawrence (Isaiah Lehtinen) is an overachieving teenage film buff who dreams of attending film school at New York University. In order to pay the hefty tuition fees, he finds a suitable job at the local video store "Sequels". In his eagerness, he alienates the most important people in his life - his best friend Matt (Percy Hynes White) and his single mother Terri (Krista Bridges). At the same time, he develops a complicated friendship with his boss Alana (Romina D'Ugo), who is several years older than him. As graduation approaches, a series of painful realizations force Lawrence to consider the possibility that he is simply a pretentious asshole.
