This so often cited genre pigeonhole 'post-hardcore' is musically the purest grab bag. It leads you from the most delicate breath songs, which are presented on ambient sound carpets and soft acoustic guitars, directly to breath-taking outbursts of rage - and that sometimes within only one song. But that's exactly what fans of bands like I Prevail from Rochester Hills in the US state of Michigan appreciate. Since 2013, Brian Burkheiser (vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals), Steve Menoian (guitar) and Gabe Helguera (drums) have been on the road in this musical field of tension - and have made it to a greatness that reaches far beyond the genre. They've been GRAMMY-nominated twice, have gold and platinum records on their shelves, and still manage to surprise old as well as new fans with their music. In May, I Prevail will play four concerts in Germany in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich and Hamburg. Most recently, I Prevail released a single that perfectly showcases their range in just one song. "Deep End (Stripped)" features the "Stripped" version, which is so dazzling, poppy and catchy that you could easily put it between a song by Ed Sheeran and the Giant Rooks on the radio. The original version, found on their 2022 album "True Power," erupts in melodic fury in the chorus. And the live recording, recorded in London in 2023, seems even more majestic and powerful than the studio version, whipped up by the audible commitment of the audience. Not only do I Prevail manage to pull off this marriage of melody and aggression at gunpoint in the studio, they're also an insanely well-rehearsed, powerful live band. Songs like the hardcore outburst "Body Bag," the 'power ballad' "Hurricane," the fierce, screamo-part adorned "Self-Destruction," the 2016 hit "Scars" (which opens the album "Lifelines") and the longtime fan favorite "Blank Space" from 2014, which emphasizes hardcore roots above all else - all of these songs want to be heard and played live. And that's exactly what I Prevail will be doing on their upcoming tour in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich and Hamburg. Maybe they will even surprise with new material then - there are rumors about a successor to "True Power." -
