ID Festival #7 – /ENDING_REBIRTH_GROWTH/

Art as a space for dialog: from April 11 to 14, 2024, the Israeli-German "ID Festival" will take place at the Radialsystem under the patronage of Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth. The festival, which has been a regular guest at the Radialsystem for many years and offers a platform for the diverse Israeli cultural scene in Germany, will present its last edition for the time being in 2024 under the motto "/ENDING_REBIRTH_GROWTH/". Together with around 120 artists and performers from Israel, Germany and the USA, it offers a varied program of theater, concerts, interactive formats, workshops and exhibitions.

The diversity of artistic positions is united by a common theme - the exploration of questions about the "end": In a staged reading, the question of the end of poetry is addressed in the face of current events, while the immersive concert experience "BECOME CHOIR" uses art to search for ways to overcome post-war trauma. In the philosophical cabaret entitled "ARETZ: Altneuland the Sequel?", the end of the Zionist dream in the sense of the writer and publicist Theodor Herzl is up for debate and the interactive exhibition "Smoke and Mirrors" focuses on both the end of democracy and the possible end of human art through intelligent machines. In addition, the Jaffa Theater is represented with the play "Shampoo Queen", which was controversial in Israel at the time. Miri Ben-Ari and the gospel choir Symphony of Brotherhood take a joint look at the bond between black and Jewish communities in the USA, which is rooted in the experience of oppression and persecution.

With the "/ENDING_REBIRTH_GROWTH/" edition, the ID Festival 2024 is attempting to create a space for exchange and use the possibilities of art to show how endings can pave the way for new beginnings and bring about personal and social growth.

The ID Festival is a platform for the diverse Israeli cultural scene in Germany. Since its foundation in 2015, the Israeli-German festival, which has been awarded the EFFE label for excellence in the European cultural landscape, has been promoting collaboration between artists and institutions from both countries under the direction of Ohad Ben-Ari. The detailed program will be published in mid-February 2024. Tickets will go on sale on January 18, 2024.

Israeli-born, Berlin-based musician and entrepreneur Ohad Ben-Ari is the artistic director of the ID Festival, which he founded in 2015. Trained as a classical pianist, composer and conductor, Ben-Ari's career has taken surprising turns that have led to diverse artistic collaborations, from production work with Kanye West to solo performances under Sir Simon Rattle. Ben-Ari's compositions and arrangements are performed worldwide. His composition "Violins of Hope", commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, was commissioned and performed by the Berlin Philharmonic in 2015. His most recent work, the song cycle "Paterson", written for mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, will be premiered in Ingolstadt with the Georgian Chamber Orchestra in the 2024/25 season.
