THEATER | PERFORMANCE
"It's true, it's true, it's true." The 17-year-old painter Artemisia Gentileschi is said to have shouted these words in court in 1612. In the dock: Agostino Tassi. A house friend and teacher. The man who raped her. Gentileschi took revenge for this with a series of paintings, including: "Judith beheading Holofernes". Her interpretation of the Old Testament myth, in which she rolls the head of her own tormentor. The performance debut È VERO È VERO È VERO by Dutch-French artist Ika Schwander begins with a visual contemplation. And broadens the view of how abuse and sexual violence are dealt with in pop culture. From Peggy Lee's "That's what a woman is for" to Sinead O'Connor's "Troy". Schwander - who has already worked with Jan Decorte and Sigrid Vinks (NIE WERDE ICH DEN TOD VERGESSEN) - shows the traumas that are burned into the body. Asks about the possibilities of resistance. And of love.
