Guido Schmalriede aka Manuel Muerte: Born in March 1968, the theater maker and specialist in illusion and deception uses magic as a means of dealing with reality. After studying cultural studies, he became a full-time magician, won the World Magic Championships in Japan and was honored with the Sarmoti Award from Siegfried and Roy in Las Vegas. In addition to his international magic and seminar activities, he has been working for years at the interface between magic and enlightenment in various interdisciplinary projects in the theater.
In 2003, he put together his first two-hour program, "Metaphysical Cabinet". In it, he plays the role of a down-and-out magician from the late 1970s who is desperately trying to get close to Hollywood greats.
In the early 1990s, together with colleagues Bernhard Wolff and Detlef Simon - Desimo, he founded the group Die Plebsbütte, which was awarded first prize at the World Congress of Magic in Japan in 2004.
Since 2014, he has been producing magic programs together with the Hamburg Theatergemeinschaft at Kampnagel, in which he deals with magical-mystical problems of everyday life. In his first production, he dealt with the topic of the magic of sexuality. In 2015 and 2016, he tackled the subject of death and the afterlife in his programs. First with the program Der schwebende Diwan and then Talking Dead-Talkshow mit Toten, which he also performed at Kampnagel. A year later, he produced the program Das Orakel von Delphi with the support of the Hamburg Department of Culture.
