This hilarious comedy of mistaken identity revolves around two gentlemen friends from London at the turn of the last century who stumble across their own lies and all kinds of imaginary corpses in their search for true love. Social conventions are still taken seriously here! So seriously, in fact, that the only way to escape them is by "bunburying". Our two friends have taken this practice to perfection.

Algernon Moncrieff invents the sick friend Bunbury in the country, whom he pretends to look after in order to escape his pushy aunt, who wants to set him up at boring dinners. Jack Worthing supposedly has to look after his sick brother Ernst at regular intervals, but really only wants to see Algernon's cousin again. And Jack's cigarette tin, engraved with the dedication "Your little Cecily", attracts Algernon's interest. Who is the girl? Obsessed with getting to know her, he secretly travels to her as Ernst Worthing.
