IM PALMENHAUS

In the organizer's words:

Dance, music and video art create an imaginary palm house. A utopian-critical thinking space about our relationship to plants, archiving nature and lost sounds.

It is warm in the palm house. Sunlight falls through the leaves of a banana plant onto wet sneakers, while outside the sounds of the city are muffled by the glass walls. Inside it is quiet - only the dripping of condensation and the humming of the ventilation can be heard.
IM PALMENHAUS is an installative performance about our relationship to plants, about attempts to preserve nature in glass museums and about lost natural sounds. Two performers create an imaginary palm house on stage - a poetic thinking space between dance, music and video art. The palm house appears as a contradictory place: an artificial miniature world of exotic plants in the global North, created from colonial collections and scientific order. While plants are preserved and exhibited here, their original habitats are disappearing elsewhere due to deforestation and environmental destruction. In the form of an immersive installation, sound recordings from the Congolese rainforest meet movement and live music, while multilingual texts negotiate questions of identity, naming and nature archiving. The palm house thus becomes both a symbol and a utopian-critical place where our relationships with nature and social systems can be re-examined and questioned.

In German and English.

Duration: approx. 60 minutes.

On Tuesday, June 16, the LISTENING WORKSHOP: IN THE PALM HOUSE with Ruth Kemnawill take place at 6 pm (bookable with the combined ticket).
