Three decades have passed and yet the footsteps continue to echo. The footsteps of those who mourn, remember and cannot forget. For many Bosniaks, July 11 is more than just a date. It stands for pain, loss and unimaginable suffering, but also for strength, dignity, resistance and the struggle for truth. The genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina left behind destroyed cities, families and lives. Even today, relatives are still waiting to find the remains of their loved ones in mass graves. The scars are visible - in the streets, in the faces, in the hearts.

The photo series "In Their Steps - Remembrance Continues" accompanies Marš mira and this year's commemorative event in Dortmund on the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. It shows what words can hardly express: the dignity of the survivors, the pain of remembrance and the silent power of remembrance.

This exhibition is both a warning and a legacy. It reminds us that history does not pass away, it continues to have an effect. Srebrenica calls on us to remain vigilant in the face of hatred, intolerance and repression. Because those who remember stand against forgetting.

At the vernissage, Esmanur Çiftçi and Adna Kovač will share their thoughts on Srebrenica and the genocide - from the perspective of a victim and an outsider. "During our talk, we slowly move towards each other as a symbolic realization of our title 'In Their Steps - Remembrance Continues'," says Adna Kovač. The whole thing is accompanied by accordion music from the children's and youth group of Amanet e. V.
