ISLANDS OF THE FUTURE 2024: Discover deceleration!

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., the cultural series ISLANDS OF THE FUTURE will celebrate its premiere in the International Art & Culture Quarter Schiffbauergasse. Once a year, the cultural sponsors of Schiffbauergasse will dedicate themselves experimentally, artistically, musically and performatively to a topic of the future. Under this year's motto "Discover Deceleration!", the T-Werk Potsdam, the Hans Otto Theater, the fabrik Potsdam, the Theaterschiff, the museum FLUXUS+ and the Waschhaus Potsdam present a diverse program in cooperation with the state capital of Potsdam and the Schiffbauergasse discovers slowness. Take half an hour, sit down and listen to visions of the future from 1974 in the science fiction radio play "Ein Raumanzug zu wenig": Only the captain of the spaceship destroyed by a meteorite strike and his 16-year-old passenger survived the catastrophe in the bow. But will they also be rescued? Both have to live through hope and fear, courage and despair. Victory over danger is achieved with the help of technology, but it is only possible through the sacrifice of mankind. These people of the 21st century prove to be strong and distinctive personalities, but they are no strangers to inner conflicts.
