Inter(-)Views brings together artistic approaches that use interviews and conversations in new ways. The exhibited works explore how interview formats can challenge traditional research methods in contemporary art. The interviews in the exhibition are neither fixed nor neutral. They unfold as open, performative encounters characterized by differences in power relations, expectations and ways of speaking.
The works in the exhibition - radio programs, performances, films and installations - are based on interviews that include research, initial discussions, planning and an examination of legal issues. They move between anonymization and making certain elements visible. Sometimes the recording process itself becomes visible or audible. This raises questions about transparency: Does it help us to think more critically about representation when we see how something is made, or is there a risk of reproducing the very structures that are supposed to be questioned?
The exhibition Inter(-)Views understands conversation and interview as artistic methods and brings together students of the Media Art undergraduate program at the HGB:
