From 5 to 10 May 2026, Stuttgart will once again be transformed into the center of the international animation scene: the 33rd International Festival of Animated Film will present outstanding current productions and the great diversity of modern animated film. From artistic short films to elaborately produced cinematic works, the festival showcases the entire creative spectrum - supplemented by links to areas such as visual effects, architecture, art, design, music and games.

Films are shown in the city center cinemas and in the popular Festival Garden on Schlossplatz. The open-air cinema there invites you to linger all day and free of charge. Thanks to the large LED screen, animated highlights are shown at lunchtime, making the festival a meeting place for film fans of all ages.

The festival offers an important platform for directors, animation studios and producers to present their work to an international audience. The diverse supporting program includes school and university showcases, inspiring retrospectives and practical workshops with renowned screenwriters and industry experts.

Since its foundation in 1982, the festival has developed into one of the central events of the animation industry in Germany and is now one of the most important animation film festivals in the world.

The FMX - Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Immersive Media will take place in parallel from May 5 to 8, 2026. As the most influential European conference for digital entertainment, it brings together artists, scientists, producers and developers to discuss current trends, technologies and production processes.
