September 2024 sees the release of the Ishmael Ensemble's third album, "Rituals", which represents a significant leap for the Bristol-based musicians. With their fusion of live instruments and electronic styles, the group has always been broader than the 'new British
jazz" label they have often been given, but here their scope and boundary-pushing ambition is clearer than ever.
These elements are energetically whipped up here into huge whirlwinds of sound that are more song-based and accessible than before, but also almost psychedelic in their euphonic mix of colors, textures, facets and moods.
