The line-up is that of a classic big band: saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm section. However, the sound of the band, which was put together by Leipzig trumpeter, composer and conductor Jakob Maes from top-class musicians of his generation, is unusual. Here, the typical jazz orchestra sound meets the aesthetics of a symphony orchestra. Many things intertwine, two supposedly different worlds merge and the textures change attractively.

In Jakob Mae's jazz orchestra, the dense band structure is as important as the improvisational freewheeling of the soloists, as is the space that the players need for interpretative precision.
