"Sophisticated piano god" SZ 2/2023
"The young firebrand Ivan Bessonov, who made a brilliant debut at the Prinzregentheater in 2019, shapes the genre into a dramatic poetry rather than the aristocratic elegance of great Chopin players à la Artur Rubinstein: The sophisticated piano god as a subterranean volcano. He is at his most perfect in the two waltzes, where he combines noble brio with chevalieresque élan. The enthusiastic jubilation after the roaring Presto finale of the B minor sonata was satisfied by two encores of the same caliber." (SZ 2/23)
The final applause at Ivan Bessonov's last recital was frenetic, and there were standing ovations after further encores. Enthusiastic and astonished comments from the audience: "He's out of this world."
