A young woman from the 17th century emerges from her painting alive and kicking and asks twelve-year-old Jackie for help: Oopjen has to find her sister's portrait in Amsterdam. The unlikely art detectives search for clues while the press pounces on the case. A criminal art dealer kidnaps Oopjen. When the museum receives a ransom demand, Jackie does everything she can to rescue her new best friend.

"Jackie's mother works at the Reichsmuseum in Amsterdam, which is buying the famous Rembrandt painting by Oopjen Coppit and wants to present it to the general public at a festive event soon. Oopjen believes she recognizes her lost sister Aeltje in Jackie and therefore leaves the picture frame. Jackie and her new friend set off in search of Aeltje's picture and run the constant risk of being discovered. At the same time, two oddball art thieves are hot on their heels.
