INTO ART HISTORY WITH A BELLY FLOP
Art is everywhere! It's in company logos and films, in video games and politics. People have been making art for as long as there have been people - sometimes dazzling and colorful, sometimes dark and threatening. Museums and galleries are a huge pool of bubbling creativity. Here, horses can be blue and masterpieces can be made of garbage. The world of art is a gigantic enrichment. At the same time, many people are overwhelmed and put off. That's all over now! Jakob Schwerdtfeger inspires art philistines and experts alike with his very own view. What does Impressionism have to do with dog sweaters? Why does cubism look like you've punched a mirror? And how did the Renaissance become the nerdiest of art eras? This book has a different vibe - Schwerdtfeger gets us excited about art.
1000 years of art history, all the important epochs from the Middle Ages to the present day: DOT DOT DOT COMMA STRIKE, DONE IS THE STORY OF ART.
"THIS BOOK IS MY DECLARATION OF LOVE FOR ART."
Stand-up comedian and art historian Jakob Schwerdtfeger brings together a wealth of masterpieces, insider tips, anecdotes and art scandals. On 300 pages, Schwerdtfeger provides a contemporary and refreshing view of art history that is not limited to the Western canon. He conveys well-founded facts and passion with playful ease. This unique blend of entertainment and knowledge allows us to experience art in a different way. Like a truffle pig, Schwerdtfeger searches for fun facts and explores why the Mona Lisa ended up in a pizza advertisement and how an artist was able to trick Google Maps. "I wrote the book I always wanted to read about art myself."
After reading this book, every museum visit becomes a real treat. At last, art is presented in a fun, relaxed and educational way. There are thousands of paths through art history, but Jakob Schwerdtfeger's path is certainly the most entertaining.
