Sperie Karas is a jazz legend! He studied drums at the Julliard School of Music in New York from 1949 to 1954. While still a student, he played in the well-known New York jazz clubs, including 'Birdland'. Towards the end of his studies, he became a member of the Sauter Finegan Orchestra. Karas has lived in Germany since 1957, where he initially worked as a drummer for the Südwestfunk dance orchestra in Baden Baden before moving to the WDR Big Band in Cologne in 1967.
Every Tuesday: Jam Session at the Jazz-Schmiede.
The evening always starts at 8pm with an opener concert set, the weekly changing formations are announced on our homepage.
