Jamilla & The Other Heroes

Jamilla & The other Heroes is a wild band 'from manywhere' that will make you fly with their psychedelic desert funk. Singer Jamila Al-Yousef, who named the band after her Palestinian grandmother, was born in Berlin on the day the Berlin Wall came down and absorbed the revolutionary energy with her mother's milk. Together with her heroes, she composes songs that appeal to a transcultural audience that can identify with the band's diaspora stories and their musical fight against racism. "As people with post-migrant family histories in Syria, Palestine, Italy and Colombia, we create a sense of home and wanderlust in our music."

Sinem

No either-or! Musically, boundaries are broken down and spaces are created for maximum freedom of movement. Sinem are Sinem (vocals), Tagar (guitar) and Tom Wu (drums, loops). Together they combine 80s New Wave memories, arabesque rhythms, minimalist synthesizer basses, electronic sounds, raw guitars and Turkish chants, (re)discovering the roots of the third generation Gurbetçiler, making them tangible and overcoming the cultural clash.
