Readings by Jan Off are like riding a razor's edge. You never know which half of your brain will be severed by the author's razor-sharp lecture. Whether the 2001 National Poetry Slam Champion will stick to the announced program is just as uncertain as the question of whether he will charmingly ensnare or no less charmingly insult his audience. In any case, digressions are just as much a part of the good tone as spontaneous reactions to comments from the audience. This is real stand-up, albeit performed sitting down. Often poetic, often political, but always entertaining. Because the author of the cult novel "Vorkriegsjugend" has internalized one thing since his punk rock days: if something isn't splashed around, it's not my party.
