KOSMOS SUITE is the fusion of different worlds and two existing bodies of sound, an explosive-contemplative fusion of the emotional density of a polyphonic vocal ensemble and the physical energy of an improvising jazz formation. The eponymous debut album by composer and pianist Lukas DeRungs(winner of the German Jazz Award 2024) was nominated for the German Jazz Award 2023, and live on tour in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg - together with the renowned JAZZCHOR FREIBURG and the DeRungs Quintet, consisting of five young, up-and-coming musicians from the British and German jazz scene. The KOSMOS SUITE is a sound experience of poetic power, a live mini science fiction series in musical form, between 21st century jazz and Renaissance choral music, between pop song and avant-garde improvisation, between order and chaos. Based on English texts by contemporary poets, it describes a journey through a human life in five movements: Spark (new beginning) // Blast (explosion) // Life (empathy) // Void (fear) // Home (homecoming). It is about questions of why, about death and life, darkness and light, time, being, connectedness, confusion and trust, and about our place as individuals in the greater whole - the cosmos.
