"40 YEARS OF BIRDLAND"
JAZZKOMBINAT HAMBURG FEAT. THERESIA PHILIPP & SHANNON BARNETT (FROM)
The Jazzkombinat Hamburg is representative of the vibrant generation of young jazz musicians in Hamburg. The 21-member ensemble has set itself the task of networking these musicians in a supra-regional collective. To this end, it regularly invites guests from all over Europe to Hamburg. For this evening, the Australian trombonist, composer and professor of jazz trombone at the Cologne University of Music and Dance Shannon Barnett joins the Jazzkombinat. After working in Melbourne and New York, she was a member of the WDR Big Band and worked with artists such as Ron Carter and Maria Schneider.
The project will be conducted by saxophonist Theresia Philipp, who also wrote the program. She has not only been awarded the Cologne Jazz Prize, the WDR Jazz Prize for Composition and most recently the German Jazz Prize, but has also been the artistic director of the Bundesjazzorchester since 2025.
*This year's project is funded by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media and the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung through the Kulturstiftung Zillmer under its umbrella.
