Johannes Philipp Speder "oh son oh son what have you done" Finissage

In his solo exhibition 'oh son oh son what have you done', Hamburg-based artist Johannes Philipp Speder presents an intermedia arrangement of contemporary sculptures and colorful collages. The exhibition illustrates a wide variety of motifs and creates a homage to the idea of confrontation and innovation that challenges the traditional boundaries of sculpture in order to redefine them.

Spiritual but not religious - the artist leads us through a seemingly transcendental exhibition landscape. The positions of the works, staged by various light sources, lend the exhibition space an intense impact without robbing the individual sculptures of their individuality. The iconic Renaissance depiction 'Madonna and Child', for example, functions as a deconstructed floor lamp. The artist's new series, 'Men and Women', integrates itself into the red neon light-covered staging with a cool elegance of form and the burning candles, carried by long-legged female guardians, are reflected in a flooded basin, shining almost gracefully over the action.

The work 'Das Haus der Träume' (The House of Dreams), positioned in the midst of pillars, expands our understanding of space and its limitations, in which not only the physical space itself, but also the way in which it is perceived and experienced, plays an important role.
'Oh son oh son what have you done' convinces through the complexity of the sculptures shown, as well as a significant overall effect by focusing on the ability to transform traditional artistic perspectives.
