Josefine Opsahl (\*1992) is a *"boundary-pushing and remarkable Danish composer and artist "* (The Strad, 2022) who connects aesthetics across eras, art forms, spaces and communities. Drawing on her classical training, she translates this into contemporary forms of expression, transcending genre boundaries, resulting in, according to the Danish Crown Prince*, "a truly original and contemporary expression - remarkable for her young age "* (2022).

With a focus on tradition and renewal, on haptics, movement and virtuosity, she has established herself, her works and her performances - especially with her main instrument, the cello - as a formative force on the international stage. She has received numerous awards for her work, most recently the Crown Prince Couple's Cultural Stardust Award 2022, the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize 2021 and the Wilhelm Hansen Foundation Honorary Scholarship 2020.

Her most recent major works include two operas, music for two new ballets by the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen and symphonic compositions. Her most recent opera *"HJEM "* has been celebrated for its radical and uncompromising style; she has been described as a *"fearless "* and *"outstanding opera composer "* (Politiken and Magasinet Klassisk). Gaffa wrote: *"Josefine Opsahl has created a very significant work - an extremely successful modern opera that not only feels relevant, but really gets under the audience's skin. "* Her first opera *"DrømmeDøden "* was described as a *"musical sensation "* by the Swedish newspaper *Dagens Nyheter*.

In spring 2023, her own *Concerto for Cello and Orchestra* premiered, as did her US solo debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She has a close collaboration with the Royal Danish Ballet; her latest ballet work will premiere at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen in March 2024.

Josefine's works have been performed internationally - in Europe, the USA, China, Brazil and Argentina. Her albums have received outstanding reviews and awards, including the RoundGlass Music Award (USA) and the Danish Radio P2 Audience Award. Her debut solo album *"Atrium "*, released on Dacapo Records in August 2022, was highly praised by international media: *"Evocative and hip "* (Gramophone Magazine, 2022) and *"technically refined and emotionally charged "* (*Dagens Nyheter*, 2022).

Josefine Opsahl has taught in Shanghai, at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, the Royal Danish Academy of Arts and at the University of Copenhagen. She studied classical and contemporary cello at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and at Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) and holds a soloist diploma in Contemporary Creative Art.

She is represented internationally by Karsten Witt Musik Management (DE) and The ACT Agency (DE) and works with the publishing house Edition Wilhelm Hansen, which takes care of her compositional works and projects.
