silent green presents
Born in Argentina as the daughter of tango singer Horacio Molina and actress Chunchuna Villafañe, Juana Molina grew up surrounded by music and began playing the guitar at the age of five. After her family had to flee to Paris during the Argentine dictatorship, she came into contact with sounds from all over the world, which shaped her eclectic style.
Back in her home country, Molina became Argentina's most popular comedian with her TV show Juana y sus hermanas. In 1996, she left television to devote herself entirely to music and made her debut with the album Rara. Although she was initially met with skepticism, she refined her sound in Los Angeles, experimented with loops and electronic elements and released her album Segundo , which marked her breakthrough.
Admired by artists such as David Byrne and Will Oldham, Molina developed a cross-genre sound of folk, electronica and ambient textures.
2025 saw the release of DOGA, her eighth studio album and the first album of new compositions in eight years - a work that took almost six years to create. Unexpected melodies, ethereal, organic sounds, minimalist and subtle gestures, repetition as an aesthetic device, sparse, seemingly static harmonies, lyrics as concentric layers: a familiar but always surprising soundscape.
