Traveling exhibition of the Stadtbund Münchner Frauenverbände, the largest and oldest women's network in Munich and the Deutscher Juristinnenbund:

With an exhibition, the Munich City Library, the German Women Lawyers' Association and the Munich Women's Association pay tribute to the fates of many women who were admitted to study law at German universities for the first time after 1900. In the years that followed, they worked hard and against much resistance to earn their degrees. Initially, they were not able to pursue a career as a lawyer, but could only acquire academic titles - it was not until 1922 that they were generally allowed to become lawyers, public prosecutors or judges.
The rule of National Socialism put an abrupt end to these careers, especially for Jewish women, in 1933. As women, as Jews and as people defined as Jewish, they lost their positions in the legal profession, the judiciary or the administration.
The professional bans, based on the "Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service" of 1933, forced many of them to emigrate. Those who remained in the German sphere of influence and were unable to go into hiding were murdered.
Some exiles took it upon themselves to train as lawyers a second time, while others managed to survive in a variety of ways. After the defeat in May 1945, only very few of them returned to Germany.

To mark its 75th anniversary, the German Association of Women Lawyers has portrayed 17 of these women. The biographies are supplemented with information on the admission of women to the legal professions, the founding of the Association of Women Lawyers in 1914, professional bans, expulsion, murder, exile, remigration and restitution.

The exhibition will be on display from May 22 to May 31 in the city library in Motorama and from June 11 to June 18 in the city library in HP8.

A vernissage will take place on June 11 at 6 p.m. in HP 8, at which the third mayor of the state capital Verena Dietl will give a welcoming address.
