Four choreographers from Europe and Asia in one evening: Frenchman Fabrice Guillot takes the stage to new dimensions - as a high-level climber, he remeasures the space and gives contemporary dance a breathtaking spectrum of movement. Yuri Zhukov, a native of St. Petersburg and former soloist at the Kirov and San Francisco Ballet, founded the Zhukov Dance Theatre in 2008, where he has since created several works under the Yvruk label. With Tú Hoàng, born in Vietnam, the winner of the International Choreographic Competition Hannover 2023 presents his very own vision for dance, which has already brought him multiple successes. Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis has developed his very own dance technique, which has earned him guest contracts at renowned theaters worldwide and several choreography awards. He has already presented himself in Chemnitz in Wellen.Flimmern.
Fabrice Guillot and his company Retouramont have already made several guest appearances in Chemnitz at the International Festival TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ. In Vertikale Spiele , he now explores "some new techniques around the vertical axis" with Ballett Chemnitz, as he says himself, and adds another dimension to the dance space: height. The result is an unusual canon of movement on and with the rope and at the same time a game with overcoming gravity.
Septem, a Greek word for seven, refers to the number of dancers for whom the piece Constellation Septem was created. Choreographer Yvruk plays with the individual skills and personal technical excellence of each dancer, which pass by as moments of beauty in the flow of emotions.
Tú Hoàng's work Here We Stand focuses on the tension between structure and chaos, tradition and innovation. While the disciplined technique of ballet represents the historical basis of dance, techno provides a tapestry of sound inspired by the freedom and spontaneity of the modern digital age. The dancers thus move in a multi-layered field of tension between elegance and rebellion, order and letting go.
Inspired by the ethereal soundscape of the Cocteau Twins, Andonis Foniadakis has created a very personal work with Ballett Chemnitz. With the work Dreamwave, as he describes it himself, "I surrender to the sheer beauty and haunting pleasure of the music and try to capture the atmospheric, dream-like sensations that fill my heart and soul when I hear it." And this much can be revealed: This is a fast-paced pleasure.
