Kampnagel has stood for contemporary performance, dance and theater for 40 years. But the history of the site goes back much further. For many years, the history of the crane factory, which became an armaments factory and employed more than 500 forced laborers, was omitted from the narrative - whether out of concern for a negative image or a lack of historical awareness can no longer be reconstructed. In the meantime, however, a lot has happened: Kampnagel has initiated a comprehensive research process and published the results in the [k]aleidoskop app and on a project website, which makes the previously untold stories of systematic forced labor at Kampnagel accessible. Anyone who would prefer an analog rather than digital insight into the dark chapter of the site's history can register for this guided tour, which we are organizing in the context of the exhibition "Culture under control. Hamburg's cultural scene under National Socialism" on several dates.
