Karin Hollweg zu Gast im Haus Coburg
In the organizer's words:
Since 2007, the Karin Hollweg Prize has been awarded annually to graduates of the University of the Arts Bremen. This prize thus demonstrates a special sense of continuity and impact. Behind the name lies a very special patron of the arts. In the early 1970s, she and her husband, Uwe Hollweg, began collecting art. They came across the works by chance—while on vacation, buying cigars, or at exhibitions—and purchased them on the spur of the moment. Today, their private museum in Bremen houses over 1,000 works of art, the Wols Archive, and a large collection of artist’s books and portfolios. Beyond this passion for collecting, the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation, established in 1996, is a key pillar of the German cultural landscape.
Through this long-standing commitment, Karin Hollweg continually opens doors between art and society. The Karin Hollweg Prize is no exception. As a tool for supporting young talent, it simultaneously fosters communication between the art academy and local exhibition institutions and facilitates collaborative projects among various players in Bremen’s art scene. Karin Hollweg’s brief visit to Haus Coburg will focus on art as a lived form of contemporaneity, her own experiences in the art world, her perspective on private art patronage, and current phenomena in cultural policy.
