Bremerhaven has developed into an important science location: Around 1600 people - that's around 3% of all employees in our seaside town - work in the scientific sector. From renowned institutes such as the Alfred Wegener Institute to the university, research and science characterize our cityscape.
A good reason to dedicate an event to the topic of "Women in Science" as part of the "Pier of Science" network in the anniversary year "20 Years City of Science".
We want to question the status of equal opportunities in this important sector of the economy. Because despite the diversity of the scientific landscape, women face particular challenges - including here in Bremerhaven.
Jessica Heibült, a consultant from the Chamber of Employees, will present current figures on women in science in the state of Bremen, which we will discuss with representatives from local research institutions.
