In 2022, the University of Münster published a research report testifying to the extreme extent of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, deacons and members of religious orders between 1945 and 2020. A year earlier - in the summer of 2021 - the major Kinderhaus abuse case was heard in court, revealing a shocking picture of unscrupulous perpetration and familial complicity. Victims of abuse complain that even months after the two cases were made public, hardly any political or legal consequences were drawn.

Children and young people have a right to safe and non-violent spaces. Why is it precisely these safe spaces in churches, homes, leisure facilities and families that fail time and again throughout Germany? How must, should and can the church and civil society react? Why do we as a society often remain silent and collectively look the other way when people in need of protection experience suffering?

With a large-scale research theater project, author and director Karen Breece sheds light on the concrete personal side of the issue of abuse behind the abstract facts and sets out in search of victims and perpetrators - and the end of violence.

Each performance will be followed by an audience discussion with those involved in the production.
