The short film "Wie die Grenzenlosigkeit Grenzen schafft - die A40 in Bochum" takes the audience along the Ruhr Expressway and tells its story. In the process, it becomes clear: The A40 is more than just a highway that runs through the Ruhr area; it connects it on the one hand and divides it on the other, it is a permanent architectural project and an indicator of social structures. What is the difference between life north and south of the A40?

How the A40 overcomes borders and creates new ones is the subject of this "desktop film", which was awarded 2nd place by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on November 11, 2025 as part of the 29th history competition. (Hannah Wiggershaus, Martha Leidorf)

The film team

Martha Leidorf is 18 years old and graduated from the Neues Gymnasium Bochum in 2025. She is currently studying psychology at the University of Leipzig. She has been active at DOXS RUHR and kino.for.you since 2023.

Will Weyen is 18 years old and supported the production of the documentary in planning and research. He is now studying English/American Studies and Culture, Individual and Society at Ruhr University Bochum.

Hannah Wiggershaus, 18 years old. Graduated from the Neues Gymnasium Bochum in 2025, currently a student of art history and philosophy at the Ruhr University Bochum and a trainee in dance education in Bielefeld.
