Iconic Mvett sounds and storytelling

Tsira Ndong Bibang is a Mvett epic singer and master musician from Gabon. He belongs to the Fang ethnic group, who live scattered across Cameroon, Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and share a common heritage with the Bulu and Beti peoples: the mvett, an oral epic and iconic musical instrument that is still alive today. The term mvett is derived from the verb avett, which means "to ascend". Mvett reveals a symbolic idea of the inner space of man. This particular space consists of three cavities: the mouth, the chest and the abdomen. They complement each other and express an original world view in which an outer and inner space face each other.

In May 2026, the trio led by Mvett musician Tsira Ndong Bibang will be guests at Klangkosmos NRW. The three musicians are the guardians of the stories, wisdom and magical sounds of the Fang from Gabon.
