In the organizer's words:

What actually is salon music, and what is behind the term bar piano? And what elements belong to this style? Can bar pianists learn anything from Liszt's techniques as an arranger? And in times of music streaming and the constant availability of music, is this type of acoustic sprinkling still justified?

Terms such as salon orchestra or café music seem to have fallen out of time, and yet live music in the background, intended purely for entertainment, has not lost its appeal, pure hedonism.

Nikolas Jeroma will present 19th century salon music, adaptations of classical works and classical bar piano playing in a deliberately relaxed setting*, peppered with lots of background information.

* Food and drinks from the bistro in the hall are exceptionally permitted during this lecture concert.
