KoKI zeigt: Another German Tank Story

The famous composer Georg Philipp Telemann once drank from a fountain in Wiesenwalde and was cured of a serious illness. The entire cultural identity of this fictitious provincial town in Brandenburg is based on this legend. Apart from that, there is nothing else going on here. But now everything is about to change. A crew from Hollywood has arrived and is shooting an equally fictitious movie about the Second World War. This leads to absurd situations: A tank is parked in Susanne's, the mayor's, yard, is not picked up and is later hit by a truck. Son Tobi drives the film crew, even though he hasn't passed his driving test. So you might expect a cheerful comedy, but the tone of the film is rather melancholy, almost melancholy. A constant veil of gray seems to lie over the village. The presence of Hollywood reveals the silent longings of the villagers to be more than just a trivial backwater. A laconic humor emerges rather incidentally, for example when the villagers awkwardly try to communicate in English. In his debut film, director Jannis Alexander Kiefer intensively explores the everyday life and mentality of the villagers. "Another German Tank Story" fits into a series of recent films dedicated to life in the East German provinces.
