Power struggles, intrigue, betrayal, dark prophecies, and a king on a desperate quest for the truth: With “Oedipus Rex,” the academixer ensemble brings Bodo Wartke’s electrifying reinterpretation of the ancient classic to the summer stage. At breakneck speed, two actors slip into fourteen roles, transforming what is arguably the most famous tragedy in world literature into a theatrical experience that is as intelligent as it is hilarious. A summer evening full of verbal wit, pace, and a surprising number of laughs for a subject matter that is actually deadly serious.
