Once a month, journalist Helene Reiner invites exciting guests from academia, politics and civil society to Alte Utting to discuss pressing justice issues in a relaxed atmosphere. The focus will not only be on problems, but also on positive developments and possible solutions.

PART IV: Can we still afford the super-rich?

The distribution of wealth in Germany is extremely unequal. The richer half in Germany owns 99.5% of total wealth, while the poorer half owns just 0.5%.

This gap is widening all the time. How does this inequality come about and what does it mean for our society and the state of our democracy?

What solutions do we need to find to reduce wealth inequality and achieve greater social justice?

Dr. Martyna Linartas

is a research associate at the Free University of Berlin. She is the founder and project manager of ungleichheit.info, an initiative that communicates knowledge about inequality in a generally understandable way.

Till Kellerhoff

leads the Club of Rome's Reclaiming Economics Impact Hub and since 2021 has been the global coordinator for Earth4All, an international initiative to accelerate the systemic change we need for a just future on a finite planet. Together with Jørgen Randers, he co-authored the book "Tax the Rich. Why the rich must pay if we want to save the world".

Moderation:

Helene Reiner is a journalist, presenter and DJ. During her studies in Stuttgart, Paris and Mainz, she gained experience in documentary film, international advertising production and journalism. She has worked for ZDF, F.A.Z., Hessischer Rundfunk, Südwestrundfunk and the program "Anne Will", among others.

In 2018, she came up with the idea for the award-winning news format "News-WG" (Bayerischer Rundfunk) and has been working as host, author and "creative head" for the format ever since.
