The intermedia theme week KONSTELLATIONEN V sheds light on the industrial history of coal and the neighborhood in Leipzig Zentrum Nord.
In 1924, the Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlensyndikat built a residential building at Richterstraße 4+6 for its senior officials. Here, in the young district of Zentrum Nord/Gohlis Süd, these stately reform-style apartments offered them a modern home. At that time, the district was home to a lively Jewish community and, with the new administration building and the Syndicate's residential building, was at the beginning of a new era in Leipzig - years of new beginnings.
The fifth edition of Constellations uses artistic positions to link the history of the industry, the residents and the neighborhood, which consisted of many Jewish families in Leipzig.
Various artists show works that deal aesthetically and documentarily with the legacy of the Central German coal industry and the neighborhood in 1924 - the year in which the residential building at Richterstraße 4+6 was built. The exhibition will take place in the listed garden as well as in the attic and basement of the former MBS "civil servants' residence".
Workshops, radio play performances, a film screening, panel discussions and live music will also take place in the idyllic garden. We invite neighbors and visitors to linger in the garden, exchange ideas and talk.
On September 8 at 3 p.m., a live audio-description city tour for blind and visually impaired people will be offered, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition.
