Axis 5 is the musical encounter between the four Leipzig-based musicians Christopher Kunz, Vincent Meissner, Tobias Fröhlich and Mathias Ruppnig and Nikita Sipiagin, who was born in New York and studied in Basel. With creative openness and tonal depth, the quintet combines the individual voices and experiences of each member from different scenes in Europe and the USA.

Tobias Fröhlich, bassist and producer from Berlin, is active in numerous projects and released his first solo album under the name RUBAS in 2025. Austrian drummer Mathias Ruppnig, a much sought-after musician on the European jazz scene, has already released several albums on renowned labels. Vincent Meissner has lived in Leipzig since 2019 and studied at the HMT with Michael Wollny and Frank Chastenier. He recently released his third studio album "Eigengrau" with his trio on ACT. Karlsruhe saxophonist Christopher Kunz explores changeable sound structures between lyrical melody and expressive density in his playing. Nikita Sipiagin, born in New York and studying in Basel, is an alto saxophonist who combines traditional influences with a contemporary sound.
