Biliana Voutchkova - violin, voice

A collage program consisting of selected slow movements from Telemann's Fantasies for solo violin and original compositions by Voutchkova, the New Ghost Phantasies.

The compositions New Fantasies for two violins were commissioned by Biliana Voutchkova and Clara Levy for the DARA String Festival 2024 and premiered there. Inspired by Georg Philipp Telemann's fantasies for solo violin, they contain partly composed and partly improvised music that develops from a selection of slow movements from the original fantasies.

The process of creating this work involved a research phase of mutual personal observation as well as working together to develop an understanding of their shared classical music background. It followed their early classical training and the changes and developments they have both undergone over the years that have led to their current artistic identity. The New Fantasies came about through their personal connection to Telemann's Fantasies, which they have both been playing for over 20 years.

For this concert, Biliana Voutchkova developed a new version of the work, New Ghost Phantasies for solo violin and fixed media. She revisits and transforms the material from New Fantasies, translating the shared dialog into a solo constellation with ghostly, pre-recorded layers and spectral presences.

Duration: 55 minutes (without intermission)

Location: in the sculpture park, in case of rain in the studio* (not barrier-free accessible).

The café is open continuously until 10 pm.
