Konzertreihe: POLYPHONISCHE BEGEGNUNGEN – POLYPHONIC ENCOUNTERS

In the organizer's words:

The Phantasm Viol Consort invites you to polyphonic encounters: Four composer portraits under the sign of polyphony

Under the title The Well-Tempered Consort, the opening concert on March 14, 2025 in St. Elisabeth is dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach and presents the ensemble's latest CD.

The concerts of the 2025/26 season offer Berlin audiences the opportunity to discover new compositional territory - the English composers Orlando Gibbons, Henry Purcell and William Lawes are well known in their home country, but little to nothing on the European mainland. With its own concert series, Phantasm aims not only to disseminate the English polyphony repertoire, which is rarely performed in Berlin, but also to engage directly with the audience. After the concerts, the ensemble cordially invites the audience to an informal chat at the bar - anything you ever wanted to know about viols, consort etc. can be asked on these occasions.

The multi-award-winning Phantasm Viol Consort was founded in 1994 by Laurence Dreyfus and soon established itself as one of the best viol ensembles in the world. It has distinguished itself through its excellent playing technique, which draws on the great traditions of chamber music, and through its dramaturgically sophisticated and musically sensual programs.

Performers: Phantasm Viol Consort: Laurence Dreyfus, treble viol and conductor / Emilia Benjamin, treble viol / Jonathan Manson, alto viol / Heidi Gröger, bass viol and violone / Markku Luolajan-Mikkola, bass viol
