Press Korhan Erel Korhan Erel is a non-binary electronic musician, improviser, composer and sound designer based in Berlin. Erel plays electronic instruments, composes and designs sounds for dance, theater and video. Erel uses electronics as an instrument as well as a tool for composition and sound design, using field recordings, found sounds, synthesizers and many others together to create instruments for improvisation and composed music. With the chamber ensemble Ephemeral Fragments, founded in 2019 with Florian Walter and Emily Wittbrodt, Korhan has already played numerous concerts and released the album "mit Gefühl" in 2022. With electronic musician Eliad Wagner he founded the duo "Only With You" in May 2021. Since the end of 2024 Erel plays in the duo 'Lâkin' with piano player Neslihan Schmidt and Korhan is also the musician* in the multidisciplinary trio "Mutables" with butoh dancer* Min Yoon and visual artist/musician Nicolas Wiese. Erel composed the pieces "Soundtracking" (2021) and "Losing Track in Four Movements" (2023) as commissioned works for the electronic music trio Lange//Berweck//Lorenz and the piece "Constraint Release" for the vocal ensemble Trio Generator (2025). Erel performs in art spaces and at vernissages, and collaborates with visual artists, e.g. at the Istanbul (2013) and Riga (2018) Biennials, at Villa Romana (2018), as well as performances at MAK Vienna (2010 and 2013), Zilberman Gallery (2018), 1a Space in Hong Kong (2019), and Center for Persecuted Arts (2020) Erel has also shown various sound art works at exhibitions in Turkey (2013, 2015), Hong Kong (2019) and Germany (2020, 2021). In 2019, Erel developed Nervous Entanglement with visual artist Malte Jehmlich and presented it at the Moers Festival. The collaboration The Threshold (2012) with video artist Fabian Astore won The Blake Prize in Australia. Erel has composed music and sound for dance pieces Pavane (Tanztage Berlin 2019) and How to Get Rid of a Body (Munich 2019 and Berlin 2020) by Léonard Engel. In 2021, Erel composed music and sound for the play "Krampus" for the Maxim Gorki Theater in collaboration with Ayşe Cansu Tanrıkulu. To date, Erel has performed numerous concerts in Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Erel has released twelve albums with various musicians and groups as well as two solo albums in digital format on record labels such as ECM Records, FMR, Evil Rabbit Records, etc.
