KOSMOS Chemnitz 2026

One day, one downtown area, over 250 events, and no admission fee: On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the KOSMOS Festival Chemnitz will kick off its fifth edition. Where cars usually park and stores stand empty, bands suddenly take the stage, activists hold discussions, strangers dance together, and somewhere in between, a wrestling show might just be happening. Sound chaotic? It is—but in the best possible way. ✨

What is the KOSMOS Festival?

KOSMOS isn’t a typical festival—it’s a statement. It began in 2018 as a direct response to far-right riots in Chemnitz, when committed Chemnitz residents organized the #wirsindmehr concert. This has grown into a free city festival for democracy that focuses on one question each year: How do we want to live together in the future? Following its year as the 2025 Capital of Culture, which drew a whopping 115,000 guests, KOSMOS is now returning with a new venue and renewed energy. In 2026, the festival grounds will stretch between Hartmannplatz, Schmidtbankpassage, and Kaßbergauffahrt, including the streets An der Markthalle and Fabrikstraße, the Hartmannfabrik, the Hartmannhalle, and the green spaces behind them. Even vacant buildings and schools will be used as venues. The city itself is the festival grounds here. 

The 2026 Lineup: From OK KID to Alexander Marcus

Musically, the KOSMOS Festival Chemnitz 2026 is pulling out all the stops. Indie pop, German rap, electropop, punk, and techno will come together on multiple stages throughout the city center. Headliners include OK KID, Alexander Marcus, Mika Noé, ok.danke.tschüss, and Dani Lia. Also on the bill are SALÒ, Mariybu, beslik, Hinterlandgang, and DJ Hundefriedhof, as well as acts like Power Plush, Mietze Conte, Ceren, Nalya, sarah4k, herbst, Pizza 3 Euro, Annie & Bonnie, Eversame, Ida The Young, and Jiný Metro. Dozens of DJ sets from Chemnitz and all over Europe will keep the music going well into the night, including as part of the GROUND CONTROL night program. And because, as we all know, the anticipation is the best part, there will be another Secret Act in 2026. Who it is? You’ll only find out when you’re there. 🎶 

More Than Just Music: Talks, Art, Sports, and Wrestling

Between concerts, a program awaits that covers everything from quiet to loud. Panel discussions, workshops, and keynote speeches will feature guests including Luisa Neubauer, Arne Semsrott, Joseph “Nana Kwame” Awuah-Darko, Luna Möbius, Moritz Simon Geist, pilzaddicted, Jazzy Gabert, and Ramona Wuttig. There will also be drag shows, readings, exhibitions, a Cosmic Wrestling Show, techno yoga, community basketball, a kids’ area for the little ones, and the “Run the KOSMOS” race for anyone who wants to start the day with some exercise.
