In the organizer's words:
During the period of divided Germany, Kreuzberg was in many ways fertile ground for art - whether established or alternative - to flourish.
The Berlin allowance and low rents in Kreuzberg created a biotope in which galleries and art venues could set up shop and even less established artists could afford the rent for an apartment or studio.
The social mix in the district also provided a foundation for a lively street art and graffiti scene, some of which still exists today. Selected examples from different genres are used to present and categorize artists and art locations.
