Eckernförde Crime Trail: The Great Coward 🍾
A blackmail scheme, five suspects, and an ultimatum that sets the clock ticking
On the Eckernförde Mystery Trail, you take charge of the investigation yourself. Armed with your smartphone, you’ll be out and about, gathering information and deciding together which lead to follow next. You don’t need a guide—just a keen eye, a knack for piecing things together, and, in this case, maybe a glance at your watch.
Because in the case “The Great Coward,” it all begins with a discovery in Eckernförde’s inland harbor: a message in a bottle is floating in the water. Inside, however, is not a romantic message from afar, but a blackmail letter addressed to Behn, a well-known Eckernförde-based spirits manufacturer. At first, you might think the whole thing is just a pretty bad prank. But then the Eckernförde News receives an anonymous text message with further instructions—including an ultimatum. By now, at the latest, it’s clear: Someone is serious.
The operations center already has five people in its sights. Your task is to find out who wants to harm Behn and who can’t provide a watertight alibi for the crucial time frame. To do this, you’ll scrutinize statements, gather clues, and try to spot contradictions. Who would have a motive for blackmail? Which story sounds credible? And who might be trying to lead you down the wrong path?
To kick off the case, Eckernförde itself becomes the area of investigation. The starting point is the inland harbor; from there, you’ll make your way between the harbor and Vogelsang. Instead of a classic sightseeing tour, you’ll also get to see some of the lesser-known corners of this Baltic Sea town. This way, the search for the blackmailer naturally combines with a slightly different kind of discovery tour through Eckernförde.
So keep an eye on both the clues and the clock: Only if you figure out in time who’s bluffing and who has a real motive can you expose the “Big Coward.”
