The exhibition Kinder, Kinder! shows how diverse, touching and often contradictory representations of childhood and motherhood are in art history. From loving care to social role ascriptions - historical images still shape how we think about parenthood, care and childhood today. But what norms and expectations do these depictions convey? How do they affect our image of parents and care today? And how can care be lived, shown and organized beyond idealized ideas?

Two perspectives come together in this tour: the theological-iconographic perspective sheds light on the image of the mother in religious art - especially in depictions of the Virgin Mary - and examines their symbolic charge and cultural impact to this day. The socio-scientific-critical perspective reflects current social demands on motherhood and care work in the area of conflict between family, career and political debate.

With the guided tour series Art in Context, we illuminate the themes of the exhibition from two different perspectives and bring them into resonance with each other. Art always takes place in context, both for the artists and for the viewers - depending on which context you come from, it contains different meanings, focuses and interpretations. During the guided tour, two experts from different fields will accompany you on your tour of the exhibition and explain their perspectives on the exhibited works and artists.

Afterwards, you are cordially invited to share your perspectives and exchange ideas over a drink.
