Yasmina Reza's successful play about the question: What is art? Bitterly angry and funny at the same time.
White stripes on a white background: this painting ignites a bitter dispute between three friends; a dispute that will fundamentally change their lives and their relationship with each other. While one friend is enthusiastic about the monochrome painting, the second fiercely opposes it. The third prefers not to take a stand... An abstract work of art serves as a catalyst for the author Yasmina Reza, with the help of which she analyzes a psychologically finely drawn situation that puts three men, their feelings, their sensitivities, their friendship and indeed their entire existence to date to the test. "Art" was Yasmina Reza's first global success and has been translated into over 40 languages. The German-language premiere of the comedy took place in 1995 with a star-studded cast during Andrea Breth's directorship at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz.
