The Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich opens its doors on four Sundays and takes visitors on a tour of discovery through the building. On 5.5.2024, Stephan Klingen and Georg Schelbert will present selected photographs from the ZI's Photothek.
Buildings are among the first objects ever to be photographed and are also an important part of art history. There are countless ways of capturing architecture - from the outside, from the inside, in the main or side view, or in detail. While the photographs were sometimes (only) used for documentary purposes, other times they were used to create artistic images. In all cases, however, they capture past conditions of buildings, streets and squares. We will show you a varied selection of historical architectural photographs from the ZI's collection, dating from around 1860 to 2000.
