KUNST UM 1800. Eine Ausstellung über Ausstellungen

In the organizer's words:

KUNST UM 1800 focuses on the legendary exhibition cycle of the same name at the Hamburger Kunsthalle: from 1974 to 1981, the exhibition series in nine parts was dedicated to the impact of artworks in the "Age of Revolutions" and shaped debates about the social relevance of art that continue to have an effect today. The current show KUNST UM 1800 comments on and updates the historical order of things and the displays created under the direction of the then director Werner Hofmann from a contemporary perspective. To this end, over 50 of the paintings, books and graphic works from the Kunsthalle's collection from around 1800 that were exhibited at the time will be brought together with 70 selected loans and supplemented with works by five contemporary artists. In total, works by around 100 artists will be brought together.
