In summer, brightly colored beach bars and parasols line the snow-white sand dunes of Porto Pino; in winter, fighter jets and volleys of gunfire thunder over them. Over the years, the dunes, some of which are located on Sardinia's largest military site, have shrunk considerably. There is a rumor among local residents that Silvio Berlusconi stole the dune sand and took it to his scandalous Bunga Bunga villa in the fashionable north of Sardinia. Based on the view of the grain of sand, LA DUNA pursues the question: Who owns the land?
The experimental documentary combines true stories about a dispossessed farmer who threatens NATO with goat skulls; an enterprising fisherman who brings tourists to a radioactively contaminated peninsula; a stubborn 92-year-old rancher who chases off an international real estate consortium; a seasonal waitress planning a matriarchal marina; a scattered Sardinian family; populist environmentalists; tons of sand in plastic bottles; and the perennial "Battle for the Narrative."(Schroeder & Culurgioni, D 2024 - OmU)

The multi-part film program takes place parallel to the exhibition Panorama, which can be seen at Kunstraum IDEAL from 11.02. to 12.04.2026. The film program is a cooperation between Kunstraum IDEAL and the Initiative Kino in Bewegung and is being implemented in collaboration with the Ost-Passage Theater and associations in the Leipzig area.
The Panorama exhibition takes a look at self-organized museums as well as local heritage societies and associations in rural areas and focuses on collecting and museum-making as an identity-forming practice and knowledge technique. The exhibition sheds light on the diverse self-perceptions of museum makers and examines the narratives of local identities.
Panorama is a project by Clara Hofmann, Adrian Lück & Gregor Peschko (Kunstraum IDEAL) with artistic contributions by Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys and Kartoffelmuseum Nr. 7(Leonie Nagel & Max Stocklosa). The film program was curated by Kino in Bewegung.
Kino in Bewegung is a Leipzig-based initiative that has been organizing film events in various locations in Saxony together with local volunteers since 2019. The project aims to create a mutual cultural dialog between different urban and rural areas through direct encounters: "Even in times of ubiquitous media, we believe in the "cinema principle" as a collective emotional experience that brings people into conversation."
